The Issues

Agriculture

Agriculture

Farmers and ranchers are the backbone of Oregon’s rural economy. Dawn will stand up for proud family-owned farms and ranches, and push for fair agricultural policies.

Dawn believes:

· Farmers and ranchers are literally hanging by a thread, and are challenged by low commodity prices, increasing business costs like rising fuel prices and crop insurance, labor and frequently face natural hazards like water scarcity and unusual weather and fire events.

· We need to support our farmers and ranchers - they are the ones who put food on our table.
Healthcare

Healthcare

Health care costs keep climbing, and too many people are one accident away from financial ruin. No one should be too poor to get care.

Dawn believes:

· Healthcare is a basic human right.

· Every Oregonian deserves affordable, comprehensive care.

· Prescription drug costs must be capped.
· No one should have to fear crippling medical debt that results in financial ruin.

· The United States needs to step up to be in line with all the other Western leading countries in having a Medicare-for-all structure for health care.
Natural Resources

Natural Resources

Oregon’s future depends on balancing our economy with environmental stewardship. Dawn promotes collaboration between landowners, conservationists, and recreation advocates.

Dawn believes:

· Oregon’s amazing natural resources make this state as a desirable destination for tourist dollars, resulting in economic growth.

· Landowner use should be protected while also finding a pathway to promoting environmental sustainability.

· Stewarding Oregon’s natural resources supports outdoor recreation including hunting, fishing, hiking, equestrian, and water sports which are strong values Oregonians hold dear.
Immigration

Immigration

· There needs to be a balance between national security, personal freedoms, and effective solutions, and challenge the current approach to federal immigration enforcement (ICE).

· The current practice of masked thugs snatching people off of streets, making them disappear, and putting children in zip-tied cuffs, separating them from their families is both immoral and wrong.

Dawn believes:

· That we need to change the broken immigration system to provide humane pathways to citizenship.

· In strengthening and enforcing the rule of law and the right to due process.
Education

Education

Strong schools build strong communities and strong local economies.

Dawn believes:

· Government needs to invest in higher education, public schools, teachers, and career pathways so every student can thrive.

· We need to make tuition affordable so graduates don’t enter the workforce with staggering levels of education debt.

· We need to ensure that students are future-ready and provide them with updated tools and technology.

· Many of the educational buildings in Oregon are far outdated and not conducive to optimal learning environments. This requests making solid investments into upgrading and updating schools.
Veterans

Veterans

The people who have stepped up and defended democracy are true heroes, and we need to do what we can to support them after they reintegrate back home into the private sector after their service.

Dawn believes:

· Veterans should have access to healthcare, benefits, and mental health services.

· We need to combat veteran suicide and homelessness.

· There needs to be a resolution for issues related to military readiness and provide support for families.

· We need to investigate the impact of toxins and trauma.

· Protect our current active servicemen and women threatened by rising sea levels at our military installations.

· And ensure fair access to voting for active-duty and overseas personnel.
Economy

Economy

Everyday Oregonians are struggling with rising costs – from groceries, to gas, to rent, to home prices, and to buying the things they need in everyday life that now have tariffs raising prices. People shouldn’t have to struggle to exist. Dawn believes:

· Congress must follow through on its legal authority as the only branch of the federal government to authorize tariffs, and needs to reassert itself to remove the illegal executive orders that have added this burden to the American taxpayer.

· We need to make sure that billionaires pay their fair share and end corporate taxation loopholes.

· Establish a non-partisan consumer watchdog agency that will drive accountability for companies that try to artificially inflate pricing and gouge consumers.

· Find ways to reduce inflation, housing costs, and provide living wage jobs.
